Zidane wasnt protected Domenech

10/07/2006: Raymond Domenech believes the referee should have offered more protection to Zinedine Zidane before his sending-off on Sunday.
The veteran French midfielder ended his illustrious career under a cloud following a red card in his final ever game. Zidane was dismissed in extra-time in the World Cup final for a headbutt to the chest of Italy defender Marco Materazzi.
The France coach said: "When one has to put up with what Zidane had to and the referee doesn't do anything, one understands. You can't excuse it, but you can understand it."
Domenech admitted afterwards that Zidane 'regretted what had happened', meanwhile France defender Jean Alain Boumsong claims the former Real Madrid star had apologised to his team-mates.
