Zidane hails France spirit
08/07/2006: Zinedine Zidane says the focus should be on France's tremendous team spirit and not him ahead of Sunday's World Cup final.
Zidane has inspired his country to an unlikely World Cup final against Italy tomorrow after Les Bleus initially stuttered through the group stages in Germany.
The playmaker will retire from the game after the final and many observers believe it would be a fitting end to a glittering career should the Real Madrid star guide his side to an emotional victory in Berlin.
However, Zidane is attempting to shift the focus away from him and instead believes his country's togetherness and team spirit should be hailed.
"People are always asking me about this World Cup being emotional or special because of my retirement, but there is nothing special happening around me concerning this being my last World Cup," he said.
"I don't want to be special, I don't want to be talked about as a separate part from the group. I'm in the group with my team-mates, I'm focused on the competition and there is a good spirit in the team.
"I have good memories of 1998 and to raise the trophy again would be very special.
"It's going to be very, very difficult and we are going to have to be at the top of our game but we have the weapons to do it."
