World Cup dream still alive for Cahill
02/05/2006: The Socceroo national team received a boost on Monday with the news Tim Cahill is making better than expected progress from his knee injury.
It had been feared the young midfielder would be miss the World Cup finals which begin in Germany in June but with the initial swelling of his knee ligaments subsiding their is genuine hope he will be ready for Australia's first World Cup game against Japan in Kaiserslautern on Monday June 12.
Socceroo number two Graham Arnold confirmed to The Australian: "Tim is much happier now than he was this time last week. He was cheerful and confident,"
"The big thing is the swelling has gone completely and he now has full movement in the knee.
"He will only miss a couple of weeks' training. He is getting the best of treatment from Les Gelis, the Australian team physio.
"I expect Tim to be fully fit by the time the first game against Japan comes around."
Everton manager David Moyes had initially wanted Cahill not to go to the finals for fear of ameliorating the condition but is now expected to give the midfielder's participation his full backing.
