World Cup ball to have added bling

11/04/2006: The World Cup final ball will be gold and the winner's will use the same design when playing competitive matches for the next four years.

In other games a black and white ball will be used which has been designed by Adidas and is called Teamgeist.

It is the first time since 1994 a black and white ball will be used. It has been picked to mirror the black and white kit of the hosts Germany.

According to reports in the Times newspaper Teamgeist - "team spirit" is said to "produce greater precision than other balls making ball control and distribution 30 per cent more accurate."

The ball used in Japan and South Korea in 2002 featured martial arts weapons symbolising the energy of the hosts.

The last time a World Cup ball was unsponsored was in 1966 when England famously won the trophy.

In the first ever World Cup final in 1930 between Argentina and Uruguay the two teams could not decide which ball to use so they played with a different one in each half.
