World Cup 2006 Blog Day 9

06/07/2006: I would imagine most people were glad to see the back of Portugal and it was ironic and slightly comical to see them slagging off the officials after the game.

It did look like a dive for the penalty though some contact was made but it was a fitting way for them to leave the tournament after what they had done to Wayne Rooney.

Here is another take on that incident. Had Rooney stomped on Carvalho's family jewels, Carvalho would not have been able to complete the game, so stomping is ruled out. Perhaps if Carvalho had not been intent on hooking and pulling Rooney down, hence the leg draped around Rooney''s, he would not have been hurt in the vicinity of his cojones, not that it was a stomp!

Rooney lost his temper, no doubt about it. I do not wish to excuse it or belittle it but Ronaldo's intent was to send him off. Pointing to someone clutching their crutch and gesticulating wildly to the ref does not imply anything less than red. Not in my eyes nor Rooney's.

I blame Rooney for allowing someone less talented than him to rattle him. However it is with that same passion that propelled the push against Ronaldo that also allows for the display of brilliance he shows, thus I am very afraid to tone down Rooney in any way. He needs to concentrate more on the ball than players, though. Nothing that age cannot cure.

To everyone out there who's calling Rooney disrespectful names. "Ye who has not sinned cast the first stone". You say much I don't want to know about what you look like.

Fifa World Cup 2006 died for me when England lost. For a team that doesn't know much when it comes to penalties other than shoot at the goalie, I was shocked they pushed so hard for a shootout, but they showed grandeur they had not displayed prior in this World Cup, and I''m stil so proud of them!

I was proud of their game when Rooney was sent off. Rooney was totally provoked as Portugal has done its opponents to there and since. I'd much rather have a losing team than a team of losers.

Go ENGLAND! We'll get there yet!

06/07/2006: U probably didn't see it, but the ref was just 3m from Rooney's action...The Lucky of Portugal did run over against France...but this is the game spirit...the ones lucky are the future champions...look 2 Italy...3 lucky games with penalty's in last minute? That's probably why they have all those problems of cheating...???Must interesting is seeing that in the "Tour the France" they banned all probably athletes that probably used steroids...but FIFA is taking is time 2 see if they are not using some off those cyclists tactics on national soccer team....all that old team looks like kids...?Best for all...

06/07/2006: Rooney deserved to be sent off. No more whinging please. England lost to a very poor side. I'm glad to see the back of portugal too I must say. Italy to win in extra time or penalties on Sunday I think

06/07/2006: Zidane's got balls Rooney trys to take them!Proud of Rooney, you have been in Frankfarter land too long. Rooney should make you ashamed to be English. His violent attitude is so backward... I bet he does not grow up and until he learns to show respect to fellow human beings he will always be a loser. If he had managed to stay on and himself and naff Neville had took penalties it could all be so different. Thanks for losing every thing Rooney.Rooney next time round you will be injured and the time after that too fat, old and still a wanker.

06/07/2006: Rooney should have stomped harder (not that he really stomped at all)....then given that poor excuse of a ref one for his troubles!

06/07/2006: 3 lucky games with penalties in last minute? I thought it was only Australia (the penalty could still be justified, and they were UNlucky to lose Materazzi). But the goals against Germany were regular goals, just came a little late in the game. As for the third game, which one was that?

06/07/2006: Justified, my ass, even if you don't know the game very well you could tell that was no penalty. The fact is that if thirteen players in the Italian Squad are being investigated for Match Fixing, then you can be sure that at least SOME Italian players are cheats, obviously in more ways than just match fixing after the Dive against Australia. I feel sorry for any side who go down to the bunch of cheats. It will be a sad day in World Cup History, besides very controversial if Italy win this Tournament.

06/07/2006: If Italy Win this World Cup, I don't think I could bring myself to watch another FIFA run tournament. The game has become corrupt and devious, instead of what has been called the beautiful game. With beyond poor refereeing in many matches and players putting on shows that would put many hollywood actors to shame. This has been more than one football fan can take. I don't think I can even bring myself to watch any more of this tournament, except to see Italy brought down.

06/07/2006: I always thought that Portugal was a small country but after all it seems that England is that it is!!!

06/07/2006: I'm going to have to say that I am extremely surprised that the ref in the most recent game didn't give C. Ronaldo a yellow card after he clearly saw him diving not once but a couple of times. Cheats are those who dives.Italy is actually skilled in this world cup. the match fixing scandles are over the italien clubs not the italien team in the world cup

07/07/2006: Thirteen Players being investigated at club level for MATCH FIXING. That says it all, players under investigation for what is after all, a criminal offence they are facing, should not be allowed to play in Major INTERNATIONAL Tournaments such as the World Cup.I for one think that any form of cheating needs to be stamped out by the use of severe penalty's, that includes C. Ronaldo and anyone else who takes a dive, (anyone else thinking Italy....) - I am not an English fan either, for those that would think that this is just sour grapes.

07/07/2006: No I thought Rooney acted understandebly and I am not English but Scottish. Ronaldo is his team mate for god's sake and what the hell was that wink all about if it wasn't a deliberate attempt to flair Rooney's temper. Ronald knew how to get to Rooney and did just that so Rooney would be sent off. His attitude is fighting for what he believes is right and that's not bacwward at all it is inspiring. As for an average side France were a less than average side before the group stages and look were they got. They only lost to France via a dubious penalty but Im not saying they deserved to win the match they didn't deserve to win the England one either. They had a ong time with ten men and only one England striker with little support and not only could they not convert but they nearly conceeded on too many occasions. Portugal are not a great team they are a lucky one, luck was helped along against England by the terrible decision of the referee. refereeing has been poor in general this World Cup. The match with the best referee turned out to be the best match (Germany .v. Italy) I think it's about time video repays were introduced. If they can do it in rugby they can do it football.

07/07/2006:

07/07/2006: Does anyone remember Rivaldo's foul to win the last world cup?Even the most decorated team do it! c.Ronaldo will never be a great because greats do not resort to that. Yes I saw the ref was about 3m if not closer to Rooney, but the ref that kicked Australia out of the games was closer and the Italian fell over his imaginary friend who imagined punching his face lol.I know theatrics are killing the game, but c'mon you've gotta be smart! The players have to be more so from the daft bunch reffing, goh!
