World Cup 2006 Blog Day 5

02/07/2006: Having an ineffectual coach ruined any chance England had of progressing in World Cup 2006 and now the turnip is laughing all the way to the bank with his multi-million pound pay off from the FA.

Not only did he fail to allow his side to play any decent football during the summer showpiece he quite clearly failed tactically, chose the wrong players and failed to be brave enough to stand up against the shambolic British media and certain players.

Watched the game in Essen with some German friends. They all wanted England to win and supported me throughout. Being knocked out is like a death in the family with no one really knowing the right thing to say. Didn't have the stomach to watch the Brazil v France game and sat with my back to it throughout which must have looked quite bizarre to the other 500 people watching it. I thought they would all support Brazil but the whole crowd got behind France.

It was good to see Brazil shown up for what they really are – frauds. The site of Ronaldinho in his nike girl's headband left me feeling queasy. They have so much talent but their negative inept coach stopped them from playing and entertaining people. Sad.

Portugal proved themselves to be cheating good for nothing mongrels but I'm not bitter.

The main reason why England got knocked out and spoiled my stay in Germany is Frank Lampard who once again proved he is unable to play his usual game in big matches. He may be good at scoring long range efforts against weak Premiership sides but whenever he has a pressure match to play in he has been found lacking.

Beckham's presence in the side seemed to be purely down to the fact he is captain. Thankfully he will be retiring from international football and if he had been anything like a real captain he would have admitted he was not up to the job.

Went partying afterwards to take my mind off the disappointment listening to some good German techno music at the Lighthouse21 in Essen.

Have been invited out to two different places to watch the Germany Italy semi-final but would rather just stay in and cry.

02/07/2006: Cheating? U call cheating when u can't score penalties?I admit when u say diving is Portuguese way of play. Yes. So is Brazil, Italy, Holland. But no! Only Portugal is cheating good! Why can't u say England sucks at WC2006?Know what? Take ENO or Alka-Seltzer...

02/07/2006: Right your either an Argie, Scottish or Welsh because the BulShit coming out of your mouth is unreal.

02/07/2006: I disagree that Lampard is unable to play his usual game in big matches. What was euro 04 and the qualifying rounds before World Cup then? Don't put him down just because of this tournament.

02/07/2006: Lampard... more like Lampost.

02/07/2006: who´s your daddy now?!?! cheating??? DUHHHH!! ohhh... and give Rooney some prozac my friend... he needs it to calm down a little bit...

03/07/2006: Rooney or Looney...Pretty foolish act trying to burst another player's jewels. The red card was deserved and what a blow to a team that was struggling to find the net to be a man down. Was that the best team England could assemble for a world cup? They looked like a demolition derby survivors. Well they gave their best effort and should retire gracefully. Grab a glass and drown yor sorrows folks.

03/07/2006: portugal fights for every ball, every space, any opportunity, they never give up!! they are not the most tallented team, but they've got a lot of heart, must be why their jerseys are blood red!!!!!!

03/07/2006: shoulda been carrick instead of lamps lennon instead of becks. And for pens donwing should have come on for lennon as he has such a sweet left peg

03/07/2006: You not bitter, baby?Sure, Brazil is a fraud and England has suffered an injustice... That's why Brazil has been 5 times champion while nobody else has been more than three. I advise you to cry on your pillow that's a warm place (and will spare you the present fiasco.)I personally, will watch Germany win this cup. With no tears...

03/07/2006: No preferance in that match since the US didn't even make it out of the group stage but I thought both sides played less than what they are capable of but i only saw 2 or 3 scorable chances from England while Portugal had many. The penalties chose the winner in the end but I thought Portugal played much better. Oh ya, and rooney's red card in the end wasnt that bad for england because portugal always had 2 men on Crouch back there. Englands defenseive skills where really good (neville).

03/07/2006: Portugal cheating? I guess if great defense and goaltending is considered cheating, then yeah guilty as charged :)

03/07/2006: yep .... it sucks to be like you guys ... portugal was playing scared because of the many yellow cards they had the game with holland ......cheating ....why there was a yellow card to ricardo carvalho....cheating .... if you cant win go the hell home ... the world cup ...wasn't made for a team like england ... go head portugal next game you can count on deco and costinha to blow out the french..... because the suckheads English are out ...... you guys have been beated twice .... so get the hell out and keep training may next time you guys get lucky......viva portugal

03/07/2006: Cheating no, bad sportsmanship yes!A lot of bad decisions by the ref to both sides, was a good game and I think that both teams supplied us with a very entertaining game!Quit the predjudiced comments please and let's just take the World Cup for what its supposed to be, a uniting tool! And, if one Englishman makes a comment you don't agree on, don't go insulting millions of others. Thanks :-) He doesn't speak for all of us because we know that if we couldn't win on penalties then perhaps we don't deserve to go through.

03/07/2006: I felt we did deserve to go through. We played a lot of the second half with only ten men and at times it would have been difficult to see who had the man advantage. On another day England would have won the shoot out and all this would have been forgotten about. I was a little bit harsh in my comments perhaps but I felt sad that we lost in the manner we did.(Editor)

03/07/2006: Valour is to stand up to your chances clear minded and cool headed. That's something more national teams than not have shown, and nonetheless are out of competition. Portugal have shown so far a outstanding against individually far superior players, but concerning teamplay they clearly have advantage. Getting welded iron strong no matter what, be it bad referee decision, underdog matches, or trainer decision, is no unfair or cheating. Their success is based on TRUST and VALOUR. England was brave but innefectual, same as every other team before. Cheer, bottoms up.

03/07/2006: I find interesting that Portugal is coming out, more then once now, as the bad guys and the cheaters! Would like to just remind a couple of details; on playing against Holland Portugal lost ronaldo over a , intentional or not, obvious red card that didn't come through. First question is how other other teams would have reacted to such thing?!! On the same game portugal that so many made the ephytome of violence made 10 faults and got 9 yellow cards and holland made 15 and 9 yellow cards... On the game against England the so bad Portuguese made again 10 faults and England made 21, and these are just a few examples. I guess i'm missing somenthing here :s!!! Just to end on a good note wanted to leave here the best to all football fans and may we be before everything a fraternity of man on this global village!!!!!

03/07/2006: one sentence sums up this game and all the others in this world cup so far........bad referees

03/07/2006: to all the inglish people .... if scolari leaves uor team ... mourinho i'll come to train us ..... goodbye chelsea.... c.ronaldo in madrid ... bring our heros back home .. you england, dont deserve our friendship ....better than play beautiful soccer is know how to lose....and for a few more years portugal will be always in the top 4 just take a good look at the young players that are comming out

04/07/2006: I am so disappointed that a team like Brazil could be whitewashed by France on the 2nd time. It is evidently clear that France has the masterkey to unlock all Brazil's plans and tactics in World Cup tournaments but my dream was fulfilled in Ronaldo becoming the greatest scorer in World Cup history and nobody can take this from him in the next 50 years to come. The oracle have spoken from Lagos,Nigeria! The World Cup to me has ended on the day Brazil was kicked out. Everybody should go to sleep and start preparing for South Africa 2010. Expect to see Africa (Nigeria) lifting the trophy otherwise, we shall start to think about hosting our own brand of tournament known as Africa World Cup for Africans and friends (England & Brazil) only and other Africa well wishers to win the World Cup. From Abbey city, Lagos Nigeria. 04/07/2006
