World Cup 2006 Blog Day 10

07/07/2006: Dusseldorf yesterday where once again I was ruing not being able to speak any German. It was a selfish move on my part but I'm blaming the web developer who described it as a dead language - and he's German.

Dusseldorf, famed for its arrogant inhabitants, has the largest Japanese community outside Japan so it's over to our Far East correspondent for his take on all things World Cup 2006 and small kebabs.

So, Italy v France, who'd have thought it? Italian football
soon to be crippled by corruption charges, and a France team soon to be cripples. It was there for the taking.. if only he'd taken Andy Johnson instead of Ted Walcoat and we coulda played our tried and trusted 4-4-2 and won it.

I genuinely believed we were gonna do it.. until that red-card came out.. and Rooney, Ronaldo and Eriksson are all equally to blame.. especially Ronaldo, who currently has the most punchable face in the world. The fact that we never played anywhere near our potential (both Lampard and Gerrard) was obviously the big problem. But, despite the shitness of the England games, thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing.. except Podolski = twat.

Been out to local festival tonite.. Tanabata. Big street thing, with loadsa food and beer.. even had a doner kebab stall run by some dodgy Turks, thought it was a mirage! Long time since i had a sweaty kebab.. and it wasn't bad. Being Japan it was about a tenth the size of normal one, so had a few.

After 4 weeks drinking with the footy, this festival is ill-timed.. hence the missus saying all night: "Are you pregnant!?"

Talking about kids. I hope all your little off-springs are all good. Introduce a second language early, that's my tip!

Comments on: World Cup 2006 Blog Day 10

10/07/2006: Well the cheating, diving, match fixing cheats won the World Cup, I cannot begin to describe at how sick I feel about the World Game at this moment.A Black day for football. This is one fan who may never recover to watch anymore of it.Think I'll concentrate on Rugby..........less cheating, no dives, and better all-round refereeing.

11/07/2006: I agree with most of what you said actually, except that I think, that after that perfect Swan Dive against Australia that Fabio Grosso has the most punchable face in the world.Think of where Australia might have gotten, referred to as a minnow team, they had Italy out on their feet. Then the ref handed the game to them on a silver platter after a Grosso dive. And if Italy thrashed some of the teams after that, think about what Australia would have done to those teams.FIFA got their way though. In the words of the French Consul to Australia, "I am happy that at least a European Team won." So much for "may the best team win", more like, "may the best European team win."Disgusted.
