Government gripped by Cup fever
18/05/2006: The Costa Rican government has announced all of their workers will be given the day off when Costa Rica play their first World Cup game against Germany on June 9.
"The vacation is only for that day. We decided to give people the morning so that they can watch not just the match, but also the World Cup's opening ceremony," said presidency minister, Rodrigo Arias.
With Costa Rica's other games against Ecuador and Poland scheduled for earlier in the day, Arias said: "Workers will be able to attend their jobs after these games have finished."
Costa Rica have four friendlies scheduled before the tournament begins, with the two most important being against fellow finalists Czech Republic in Jablonec on May 30 and Ukraine in Kiev two days earlier.
