Who pays for Ali Karimi?

03/04/2006: Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has called on Fifa to pay the wages of Iranian star Ali Karimi if he plays at the World Cup.

The Bayern Munich chairman has critised the sport's governing body as it will make a massive profit from the summer showpiece event, while the club continues to pay for Ali Karimi and the rest of the international stars to appear.

Rummenigge told WirtschaftsWoche: "It cannot go on.

"FIFA have set up their rules in such a way that we must release our players for free.

"With these players, FIFA are making millions in turnover with events such as the World Cup and a huge profit, without giving the clubs their fair cut.

"That is a clear monopoly situation."

Rummenigge has also threatened to take Fifa to court if compensation is not forthcoming.

"If FIFA cannot make us an acceptable offer, then we will unfortunately have to take this to the law courts."

Ali Karimi is currently out of the Bayern Munich team with an ankle injury though it was reported last week he has started rehab work.
