West Ham issue 'hands-off' warning
21/07/2006: West Ham have warned Newcastle to forget launching a bid for Dean Ashton while their interest in James Milner has also cooled.
Upton Park boss Alan Pardew has issued a strong statement after his star striker was linked with Newcastle - even though he has only been with the Hammers since the turn of the year after a £7.5million move from Norwich City.
But Pardew has moved to end the speculation by issuing a firm ?hands-off' warning over the forward - and he also extended it to the whole squad.
He told Sky Sports News: "All my players are here to stay.
"I think what people are going to have to remember is that this group were all very young last year.
"They've got another year under their belt and they're going to be better this year.
"Dean Ashton will be one of them and he's looking like he wants to progress quickly.
"We're looking forward to seeing him in the West Ham shirt and he'll certainly be running around against Charlton on that opening day, I assure you of that."
Meanwhile, West Ham's interest in James Milner could cool if he continues to appear in United's Intertoto Cup run, effectively cup-tieing him for Europe.
West Ham are preparing for a run in the Uefa Cup, the competition United are desperate to qualify for via the Intertoto.
