Vikash Dhorasoo

15/06/2006: Possibly the best football player of Indian descent Vikash Dhorasoo is a name that could soon be catapulted into the minds of every lover of the beautiful game.

A creative man whose job he sees being playing football, his international career has been hampered by having to compete in the French midfield with the legendary Zinedine Zidane.

Much is written about his descent and his unwillingness to project himself as Asian but aside from that, the world has at last the chance to see a player of Indian extract performing on the world stage at World Cup 2006.

With France's midfield struggling for Dhorasoo could have his chance to shine - a chance to prove the age old myth that Asians can't play football.

Despite being happy at AC Milan, a move back to France in 2004 was seen as better for the player who had already had spells in his native country with Lyon (twice), Le Havre and Bordeaux.

With France's poor start to World Cup 2006, it would be no surprise for this player of Mauritius descent to grasp the nettle and become one of the stars of Fifa's summer showpiece.

A playmaker, the ageing midfielder has one last chance to shine and hopefully inspire a generation of Indians to play the beautiful game.

Comments on: Vikash Dhorasoo

19/06/2006: The manager stinks, Zidane and the other big names are picking the team. Vikash is a special player when he is on the pitch he makes things happen, he has great vision can pass the killer ball extremely well, he is a willing runner and plays football with his heart. The current French midfield is simply physical and quick. They are not good technically and don't possess attributes of natural footballers and are only there because of their past achievements and their superstar status. The manager is a joke, is there any point him being there if Zidane, Veira and Henry are picking their friends to represent their country in the biggest sporting event in the world.

21/06/2006: A player of Mauritian parentage, not Indian. A person who sparked outrage in Mauritius when he returned to the country of his parent’s birth for a holiday and was posed the question of who he would rather represent. His answer was France, the people and Mauritian media alike turned their back on him only for the French national team to do the same in this World Cup again. He is not a superstar in terms of media attention, huge sponsorship deals or in the limelight for famous girlfriends. He has turned down numerous sponsorship deals to promote himself as Asia’s finest footballer simply to concentrate on a game he loves. It’s time France realised that if Zidane doesn’t pick this superbly creative midfielder who is not a household name but can make things happen then good riddance and au revoir to the ‘frogs’ who believe they are better that they are. Has-beens who have no genuine talents whose game is based on their size and speed. Sad to see genuine players who play the game the way it should played not being allowed to do so because who they are friends with.

13/01/2008: Dhorasoo is Mauritian and Telugu. He should be starting on the French roster. If, he played for the Indian or Mauritian team, he would possibly become the best player either team has ever had. He is also a supporter of gay eqaulity and donates money to stop poverty in Mauritius.
