Vieira refusing to panic

14/06/2006: Midfielder Patrick Vieira is remaining positive despite France being held to a disappointing goalless draw against Switzerland.

Les Bleus enjoyed most of the chances in Stuttgart but were unable to take them, while they were denied a penalty after Patrick Muller appeared to handle a Thierry Henry shot.

Critics have slammed the performance of the 1998 World Cup winners, who have now not scored in four World Cup games since lifting the trophy, but Vieira is remaining upbeat about the team's chances.

"I thought we played well and our problem was converting the chances that we created and that was what mattered in the end," said Vieira.

"The ball did not run the way we wanted it to and we could not get the goal.

"People expect us to play well in every game but football isn't like that these days.

"We're still alive and that's the main thing."

France next take on South Korea, who top the group after beating Togo 2-1 on Tuesday, in Leipzig on Sunday before the final group game against their former west African colony in Hanover five days later.
