Veterans reward wily Domenech
07/07/2006: France coach Raymond Domenech insists the age of his squad was never going to be an issue at the World Cup despite early criticism.
Les Bleus got off to a slow start with laboured draws against Switzerland and South Korea blamed on the number of 30-somethings selected by Domenech.
Zinedine Zidane took the most flak and there were claims that his suspension against Togo was a blessing in disguise because it allowed the French to draft in a partner for lone striker Thierry Henry.
However, Zidane returned to inspire wins against Spain, Brazil and Portugal, setting up a World Cup final clash with Italy, and answer his critics along the way.
