South Korea v Togo Frankfurt Tuesday June 13 2:00pm
Now known as the Commerzbank-Arena, the Waldstadion plays host to Eintracht Frankfurt and was re-opened in 2005 after three years reconstruction work. Originally built during the Second World War it was the scene of many famous Nazi rallies. After the war it was taken over by US soldiers and renamed the 'Victory Stadium'. It is now a thoroughly modern venue with a transparent retractable roof. The ground staged the final of the 2005 Confederation Cup Final between Brazil and Argentina with the first official game played between Germany and Australia. The arena holds a maximum of 55,000 supporters. In 1974 the stadium held a number of World Cup matches including the famous mud-bath match between Germany and Poland. Home to the European Central Bank and Germany's main stock exchange, Frankfurt is mainland Europe's leading financial centre.

The city will host five games in the 2006 World Cup. On Saturday June 10 England kick off their World Cup campaign against the South American minnows Paraguay in the Waldstadion. Three days later on June 13 South Korea face Togo - one of the few World Cup games that may not be sold out. On Saturday June 17 Portugal could have one of their easier games against Iran. The best game is saved for last. In a repeat of the 1978 World Cup final Argentina will play the Netherlands (Holland) on June 21. On July 1 Franfurt's stadium host's a semi-final that could be the mouth-watering repeat of the 1998 final between France and Brazil.

Connecting modernity and tradition the Zentralstadion in Leipzig has been rebuilt for this year's World Cup with a smaller arena being installed inside the of the old stadium. Originally built to hold 100,000 people the current capacity is around 40,000. Multi-functional the stadium holds major events, music concerts, meetings and seminars as well as being home to the soccer team FC Leipzig. The stadium boasts some of the most modern and state of the art security facilities with hi-tech surveillance equipment, holding cells and it's own courtroom for dispensing instant justice! Leipzig is where the old East Germany played many of their home games.
World Cup matches in Leipzig
Visitors to Leipzig may well see some of the best teams in the first phase matches as Holland, Spain and France all play games at the Zentralstadion. First up is Holland who take on Serbia and Montenegro on Sunday June 11. On June 14 Spain play Ukraine. The French team enter the stadium on Sunday 18 June when they face South Korea. The final group game and possibly the most important will be the clash between Iran and Angola with a place in the second phase hopefully up for grabs.
South Korea v Switzerland Hanover Friday June 23 8:00pm
Previously known as the Niedersachsenstadion, the AWD Arena, will host four group games and one phase two game. The stadium has been the home of Hanover '96 since 1959. The venue has been renovated for the World Cup at a cost of £50m. The old bowl shaped ground has been extended upwards on all sides and an overhanging roof has been added on. The ground will hold a maximum of 39,000 fans during the World Cup though for Bundesliga matches 50,000 can be accomodated. Hanover is famous for its international trade fairs and red light district and is where the British Royal family originated. The Fan Fest on Waterlooplatz in Hanover is at the heart of the city's World Cup happenings. Around 18,000 people can watch the World Cup matches as they happen - without a ticket - on a huge plasma screen adjacent to the Waterloo column.

Italy and Ghana kick off proceeding in the city on Monday 12 June - the first time the two countries have met. There is an evening kick off for the Mexico versus Angola game on Friday 16 June. The most interesting game could be the final group game played at the Niedersachsenstadion on Tuesday 20 June 2006. The game between Costa Rica and Poland could have a crucial bearing on the host nation as the game is in Group A - the German's group.
