Ghana v Italy Hanover Monday June 12 8:00pm

Previously known as the Niedersachsenstadion, the AWD Arena, will host four group games and one phase two game. The stadium has been the home of Hanover '96 since 1959. The venue has been renovated for the World Cup at a cost of £50m. The old bowl shaped ground has been extended upwards on all sides and an overhanging roof has been added on. The ground will hold a maximum of 39,000 fans during the World Cup though for Bundesliga matches 50,000 can be accomodated. Hanover is famous for its international trade fairs and red light district and is where the British Royal family originated. The Fan Fest on Waterlooplatz in Hanover is at the heart of the city's World Cup happenings. Around 18,000 people can watch the World Cup matches as they happen - without a ticket - on a huge plasma screen adjacent to the Waterloo column.

World Cup matches in Hanover

Italy and Ghana kick off proceeding in the city on Monday 12 June - the first time the two countries have met. There is an evening kick off for the Mexico versus Angola game on Friday 16 June. The most interesting game could be the final group game played at the Niedersachsenstadion on Tuesday 20 June 2006. The game between Costa Rica and Poland could have a crucial bearing on the host nation as the game is in Group A - the German's group.

Ghana v Czech Republic Cologne Saturday June 17 5:00pm

The original stadium in Cologne - the Müngersdorfer Stadion - was completed in the 1920's and became a beacon for amateur sportsmen all over Germany. It has undergone various redevelopments including in the 1970's - but failed to complete work in time for the 1974 World Cup finals. The latest phase of construction - completed in 2004 - saw the stadium have a major refit with all the stands being replaced or improved and the running track removed to provide a more intimate experience. Cologne is one of Germany's most popular and cosmopolitan cites and the stadium, known now as the RheinEnergieStadion plays host to FC Koln. Its capacity is slightly below 50,000 for international matches. The Müngersdorfer has played host to some vital UEFA Cup matches. In the 1988 UEFA Cup, Barcelona played Bayer Leverkusen while Monaco played Galatasaray in the 1989 UEFA Cup.

World Cup matches in Cologne

Cologne could boast having some of the best group stage matches with France, England, Czech Republic and Portugal all appearing at the Müngersdorfer Stadion. Portugal is the first team to play there on June 11 when they face Angola. Next up is the Czech Republic who play the little known Ghanians on June 17. The mighty England comes to town on Tuesday June 20 with their opponents being Sweden. The fascinating clash between France and Togo completes the group games in Cologne. If France wins their group they will return to Cologne to play their second phase game on June 26.

Ghana v United States Nuremburg Thursday June 17 3:00pm

The Frankenstadion at Nuremberg can lay claim to being Germany's most environmentally friendly stadium with measures in place to ensure efficient use of light heat and water. First constructed in the 1920's the ground has undergone improvements at various stages of its life with the most recent work ensuring 55,000 people can watch the best sports entertainment in comfort. Home of FC Nuremberg, the stadium hosted three games in the 2005 Confederation Cup including two games involving the hosts Germany. The city of Nuremburg itself marries modern and ancient and has become a leader in the country for modern technology. The venue has a state of the art traffic flow system ensuring access to the stadium is quick and hassle free.

World Cup matches in Nuremburg

England play their World Cup encounter at the Frankenstadion when they face Trinidad and Tobago on June 19. The first game to be played in Nuremburg is the clash between Mexico and Iran on June 11. On June 18 Japan play Croatia - possibly the deciding game to see who finishes runner-up behind the mighty Brazil. The final group game on June 22 sees the USA take on Ghana - a game that could have a bearing on who proceeds to the next phase. On June 25 Nuremburg hosts its last game - a phase two match possibly between Netherlands and Portugal.
