Van Basten admits mistake
25/06/2006: Holland coach Marco van Basten admits that he should not have viewed his criticism of Ruud van Nistelrooy in the public arena.
Van Nistelrooy has looked below-par in Holland's group games and words from van Basten suggested he was disappointed with the striker's performances.
However, the former AC Milan man feels he made a mistake in making such comments.
He said: "Regret is a big word, but what I did was not correct to the player."
Van Basten though says that he has since worked through what he expects from the Manchester United man in private.
He added: "I put my side and Ruud put his. We spoke about football and the expectations I have of him.
"He agreed with what I said and said he would do everything he could to make sure he did well in future games."
