Tim Cahill

24/05/2006: Australian pin-up Tim Cahill (Shirt Number 4) is sure to win a few plaudits as well as a few hearts at the forthcoming World Cup in Germany.

After a brilliant first season with Everton, during which he was widely regarded as the buy of the season after his £2 million move from Milwall, he then struggled with an injury before returning to the side.

His reappearance in the blue shirt coincided with a recovery in form for Everton, as Cahill again showed he is that rare commodity – a regular goal-scoring midfielder.

Cahill had shown his class playing for the Championship club, helping them reach the FA Cup final.

And when he arrived at Goodison Park, he didn't just chip in with the odd goal – he finished the season as the club's top scorer.

He is always a good outside bet as the opening goal scorer to a game, as he arrives in the box with pace and has good movement off the ball.

He has really earned his success, leaving behind his native Sydney while still only 16 to pursue a career in the uncertain world of professional football.

He will need to show the same tenacity if his Australian team is to cause a few upsets.

Comments on: Tim Cahill

13/06/2006: Tim Cahill is worth a bet to be World Cup Top Goalscorer at current prices on Betfair. He scored two last night after coming on as sub after 50 minutes. He will almost certainly start against Brazil, as he was coming back after injury. Ok Brazil will probaly win, but this will be a high scoring affair with goals at both ends (and corner flags). Australia will start the game at high tempo. I would not be totally surprised if they score the first goal. They will be pumping balls into their big strikers. Cahill will be perfectly positioned to feed off the scraps. One goal will allow us to trade out for a profit. Two and we are in the money. At worst a small bet will give you a sporting interest in the game for the full 90 minutes. Good Luck.
