Tunisia - Team Profile
30/03/2006
The most experienced of the African nations competing in this year's World Cup, the Eagles Of Carthage, as they are known, are coached by Roger Lemerre.
Lemerre took them to victory in the African Nation's Cup in 2004 as well as leading France to victory in the 2000 European Championships. Tunisia only just qualified and it took a late own goal to see them through. They have not got the best World Cup record to date and have never got out of the group stage.
Ali Boumnijel seems set to play in nets behind an experienced defence that includes their current star player Hatem Trabelsi who plays his football with Dutch side Ajax of Amsterdam. Quick and thoughtful he is considered one of the best right-backs in the world. Radhi Jaidi has struggled to get into the Bolton Wanderers side this season but should feature in the Eagles line-up
The midfield is led by the tough-tackling Ziad Jaziri while injury has kept Mehdi Nafti out of Birmingham City's midfield though he has recently started training again.
The new star up front is recent Strasbourg purchase Haykel Guemamdia. The young striker has already won over the Tunisian fans and he is expected to have a big World Cup 2006 as well as an important role in Tunisia's future development as a football nation.
