Swiss subdued by Ivorians

27/05/2006: Switzerland's latest World Cup warm-up ended in a 2-2 draw with fellow qualifiers Ivory Coast in front of 22,000 spectators in Basle.

The Swiss took the lead twice, both times through Tranquillo Barnetta, but their lead was pegged back both time by Ivorian substitute Emerse Fae - the second an stoppable thirty yard effort.

In a scrappy game, not helped by mass substitutions, neither side created many clear cut chances though both managers will be happy to have seen various squad players getting important run outs.

The biggest cheer of the night came with the introduction of the FC Basle midfielder David Degen who made his international debut in front of his home fans in Basle.

The media atention after the game revolved around Hakan Yakin who was recalled to the squad earlier this week following an injury to Johan Vonlanthen.

"Hakan is one player of the 23-strong squad, not more not less," said Swiss coach Koebi Kuhn.

"He is a part of the team and that's all there is to it."
