Sweden want revenge
23/06/2006: Sweden coach Lars Lagerback says victory over Germany on Saturday would avenge their 1992 European Championships defeat in Stockholm.
The two countries go head-to-head in the World Cup second-round tie with the Germans aiming to progress in front of their own supporters.
However Lagerback still has painful memories of their big encounter 14 years ago when the Germans defeated the then hosts Sweden in the semi-finals of Euro '92 and wants to pay them back in Munich this weekend.
He said: "I would really like to do that. It would be good.
"I was one of the co-coaches in 1992. It wasn't a nice thing to experience, to lose at home in a big tournament."
Lagerback is also hoping that the match officials on Saturday stay strong and are not swayed by the majority of the 66,000 supporters who will be backing Germany in the game.
He added: "Of course it's an advantage for the German team. The most important thing is that we have a referee who can handle the situation with a lot of Germans in the stands."
