Sweden hopeful of Ibrahimovic recovery

22/06/2006: Sweden striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic is making good progress from his groin injury and may be fit to face Germany on Saturday.

Ibrahimovic suffered the problem during the 1-0 win over Paraguay and was forced to sit out of the 2-2 clash with England on Tuesday.

He returned to training on Wednesday though and coach Lars Lagerback is hopeful that the Juventus star, who has scored 18 goals in 40 games for Sweden, will recover in time to face the tournament hosts.

However, Lagerback refused to confirm if Ibrahimovic would automatically return to the starting eleven if he did prove his fitness.

"He practised yesterday and it was positive," Lagerback told a news conference.

"It is going in the right direction. We have to wait and see. It's one thing to do a practice for 65 minutes and another to play a match. We have to see, but we're hopeful."

Lagerback praised Marcus Allback, who replaced Ibrahimovic against Paraguay and started against England scoring their first goal, for his performance in Cologne.

"He's playing very well, as he always does," Lagerback said of Allback. "He linked well with the midfield and forwards."
