Sven makes Becks admission

23/06/2006: England coach Sven Goran Eriksson has insisted that he would captain David Beckham if he felt it was for the good of the team.

The skipper has come in for some criticism following his subdued performance in the 2-2 draw with Sweden, with some pundits calling for Aaron Lennon to be handed a start on the right.

Eriksson though insists he is sticking by his captain for Sunday's knockout clash with Ecuador, although he says no player is safe from the chop if they are not performing.

The coach said: "I'm prepared to do whatever I need to do if I see things are going wrong. Whatever is required."
