12/05/2006: Chelsea are closing in on a major double transfer swoop for Ukraine ace Andrei Shevchenko and Chelsea's Michael Ballack
German midfielder Ballack will rubberstamp his free transfer early next week, while a reported £40m bid has finally seen Milan relent in their attempts to retain striker Shevchenko.
The Ukrainian striker has been at the head of the Stamford Bridge boss' shopping list many years and it seems Mourinho's persistence has finally paid off.
After a year of negotiations, Milan bosses are prepared to sell arguably the best frontman in Europe today, with a deal set to be completed after the World Cup.
With the Bundesliga coming to a conclusion this Saturday, Ballack will arrive a little sooner having fallen out of contract with the German champions.
