Squad change forced on Arena

04/05/2006: Columbus Crew star Frankie Hejduk has been forced out of Fifa World Cup 2006 with a knee injury.

Los Angeles Galaxy utility man Chris Albright will replace the defender.

The withdrawal comes only two days after Bruce Arena named the USA World Cup squad to the awaiting world media.

"I deeply regret having to replace Frankie Hejduk on the roster,” U.S. coach Bruce Arena said.

"Frankie's been a great member of the national team programme for many years. Unfortunately, this last-minute injury has forced us to make a change."

The 27-year-old Albright has played 19 times for his country and this will be his first appearance at a World Cup finals.

United States will play friendly games in May against Morocco the 23rd, Venezuela on the 26th and Latvia on May 28th.
