Spain draw a blank against Russia

28/05/2006: Despite playing three in attack Spain failed to find a way past an organised Russian defence in their latest World Cup warm-up contest.

La Furia had their chances but the frontline of David Villa, Luis Garcia and Fernando Torres failed to convert the chances presented to them by a hard working midfield.

"In the first half we had some good chances but it's difficult when your opponents only set out to defend," said Spain coach Luis Aragones.

"We tried to win and I just hope we can put away the chances we missed today when we play a more important game."

Spain face Egypt on June 3 before playing their last warm-up game against Croatia on June 7 just two days before the World Cup begins in Germany.

They begin their attempt to win the trophy for the first time against Ukraine in Leipzig on June 14 and must also face Tunisia and Saudi Arabia in the group phase.
