Shoulder of Lahm

17/05/2006: Germany's World Cup 2006 ambitions suffered a blow on Monday evening with the news influential defender Philipp Lahm may have broken his shoulder.

The Bayern Munich star was playing in a practice match against Luckenwalde that the World Cup hosts comfortably won 7-0.

So concerned was coach Jurgen Klinsmann that he spent most of the second half of the game with the poor little Lahm in the changing rooms.

Germany were never out of first gear in the sixty-minute practice match against a team from Germany's fifth division. Miroslav Klose, Gerald Asamoah, Mike Hanke Thomas Hitzlsperger and Oliver Neuville all scored one each with Bastian Schweinsteiger scoring a brace - one of which came from a penalty.

Philipp Lahm is a product of Bayern Munich's youth system securing a regular place this season having spent two season's on loan to Stuttgart. He is a right-footed left back similar to Italian full back Gianluca Zambrotta.

While the rest of the squad flew off to a training camp in Sardinia, Lahm remained in a German hospital awaiting results of a scan.
