Shevchenko eyes Italian job

30/06/2006: Star striker Andrei Shevchenko says if Ukraine 'work as a team' they can beat Italy in Friday's quarter final.

The Italians have been a long way from their best so far in the competition and the former Milan striker, who knows many of the Italian squad well, believes that the Ukraine side does not have anything to fear.

However, he feels that it will be an emotional encounter especially for himself as he will be up against so many people he formerly regarded as team-mates.

Speaking to SkySports, he revealed: "I'm very closely linked with the Italian game. I played a lot in Italy for Milan and have many friends there and I'm very comfortable with them.

"I'll probably think about all that before the match."

The Chelsea man will again provide the main threat for his country but the 29-year-old believes that playing as a complete unit will give them their best chance of a win.

He continued: "I want to do my best for my country. If we work as a team, I think we can beat them."
