Scolari will not bet on Portugal

23/06/2006: Luiz Felipe Scolari is refusing to bet on Portugal to beat Holland in their second round tie saying there is nothing to divide the sides.

The Portuguese coach was delighted after his side topped Group D with their three wins over Angola, Iran and Mexico, but he realises Marco van Basten's Dutch side will pose them a lot more problems when they go head-to-head in Nuremberg on Sunday.

Indeed Scolari has refused to tip his side to win the game and feels the team which is more focused mentally will win through to the quarter-finals as ability-wise they are evenly matched.

He told the Portuguese Football Federation website."This game is kill-kill.

"Much is decided in a match by the way you prepare for it from a psychological point of view. You need to focus the mind in anticipating what could happen.

"It is important to look at where you might make mistakes and try to eradicate them."

He added: "Van Basten deserves our congratulations for the great job he is doing.

"Holland are very well organised and had a marvellous qualifying campaign. They are working well in this World Cup and know our characteristics.

"It will be a difficult game for us. I rate our chances at 50-50."
