Saha hopeful of World Cup place

20/04/2006: Manchester United striker Louis Saha is hoping his recent good form could see him make the French World Cup squad.

Limited opportunities earlier in the season coupled with injury saw Saha fall down the World Cup 2006 pecking order behind Nicholas Anelka and Djibril Cisse.

However his recent goal scoring form that has seen him keep Ruud van Nistelrooy out of the Man Utd attack sees the youngster more confident of being on the plane to Germany in June.

"Things were not looking good for me at the start of the season but now I am back in the race, this is a miracle," Saha said speaking to Le Parisien.

"I've scored goals and everything is fine for me."

"The fact I was selected in March shows the coach still trusts me," Saha insisted.

"It does not mean that I will go to the World Cup, but I am a fighter and my game has improved a lot."

Saha joined Manchester United from Fulham in early 2004 having been French legend Jean Tigana's first signing at Craven Cottage. He also had a spell on loan to Newcastle United.

The Frenchman made his international debut shortly after arriving in Manchester against Belgium and was a member of France's Euro 2004 squad that disappointed in Portugal
