Roque Santa Cruz
08/06/2006: Paraguay may prove to be much more of a threat to England than many are anticipating, now that their star man Roque Santa Cruz has recovered from injury in time to play in the country's opener.
Although coach Anibal Ruiz has refused to say whether or not the striker will line up to face England or not, the omens look like he could be on the field come June 10th.
The Asuncion-born attacker started training with Paraguay-side Olimpia's first team at the age of 15 and made his senior debut just a year later. In the very next season, he won the league with the side and earned himself the title of Paraguayan Player of the Year.
By the end of 1999, his whirlwind career took another step up when he signed for German powerhouses Bayern Munich for a Paraguayan record fee.
Injuries have hampered his time in Germany, but he has certainly won over the fans.
Paraguay have been particularly unlucky in the run up to the tournament, having already lost their other main striker, Jose Cardozo.
