Rooney facing wait

06/07/2006: FIFA's disciplinary panel are meeting on Thursday to discuss the length of suspension for Wayne Rooney.

The striker has already been ruled out of England's opening game of the Euro 2008 qualifying campaign, against Andorra at Old Trafford on September 2, following his red card in the quarter final against Portugal.

The nature of Rooney's dismissal could though lead to a lengthier ban for the Manchester United frontman, which would see him miss further qualifying games.

Rooney has pleaded his innocence and has been backed by the Football Association following the clash with Riccardo Carvalho, but the FIFA verdict may not be made public until next week.
