Rooney comes out fighting
04/07/2006: Wayne Rooney has broken his silence over his red card against Portugal by insisting he didn't intentionally stand on Ricardo Carvalho.
The Manchester United striker was sent off after tangling with the Chelsea defender before gently pushing Old Trafford club-mate Cristiano Ronaldo in the chest after he got involved in the row.
But Rooney - who has until Thursday to give his version of events to Fifa - has defended his actions and also paid tribute to his 'supportive' England team-mates.
"If anything, I feel we should have had a free kick for the fouls committed on me during the same incident," he said.
"I did not intentionally put my foot down on Ricardo Carvalho."

Comments on: Rooney comes out fighting
04/07/2006: I wept for Wayne when I saw the referee give the red card. Here is a man who fought against all odds to be at the world cup. He risked and gambled with his life and career just to fight for his country but at the end, he was red carded and his country was thrown out of the World Cup. Why he committed such a grave offence is what I am still trying to imagine. Perhaps the kid looked back and found that Chelsea almost ruined his chance of playing at the world cup and probanly traced it down to Ricardo Carvalho at the time when the heat was on England to make Portugal gel for a goal and the Portuguese would not allow and Wayne thinking back that the defence would not give up again while having Ricardo decided to go for the killer attack. For all that I know, Wayne would not have wanted to go to the World Cup to be red carded. Pressure and bad luck contributed to the guy's behaviour. Like he said, the attack was not intentional but something brought about the attack anyway. Only Wayne, only Rooney knows the best reason for his minute of madness on Ricardo. It could be an attack from his enemies since they never expected him to go in the first instance. Therefore, may all Wayne's enemies fall down and die in Jesus name. I beg Fifa to please forgive Wayne if for no other reason but for his will and courage to add color to the event in Germany which somehow turned sour at the end for the gentle lad. Remember Maradonna's red card in 1982 who came back in 1986 as Fifa's hero? So shall it be for Wayne in South Africa 2010. I am a strong supporter of Brazil by name Olusoji, Lagos, Nigeria.
04/07/2006: ...Wayne's enemies fall down and die in Jesus name.... JESUS!!!
04/07/2006: Rooney is an idiot...he is too violent and deserved to be sent off, and it's not the first time. They treat him 2 well in england as if he is some kind of savior when there are much better players than him that are very humble, ie gerrard and lampard. As usual he let the team down, it is irritating watching rooney play acting as if he is Ronaldinho or kaka, both of whom are way up there and still act like humans
04/07/2006: i think he is cool
05/07/2006: score loser that all it is rooney acts like a 2 year old
05/07/2006: wasted talent, someone should step on his balls 2 teach him anger management
06/07/2006: I insist had Rooney wanted to step on his Carvalho's crutch, it'd be a goner and he'd have been stretchered off the field! Many people aggravagated Rooney, Ronaldo is a prick to have done that though, knowing well the result he'd have garnered from Rooney, but Rooney should not have stooped to provocateur's level. It's the curse of the same passion that gifts him with magic when in touch with the ball! Too many people have sung his praises when he has not carried his team to a win, still the kid is magic with the ball, win, lose or draw I still crave to see that on the field. But come on Rooney, enough with the losing I would love to win!!!
