Ronaldo feeling confident

21/06/2006: Under-fire Brazilian striker Ronaldo is confident that he will return to form and start banging in the goals.

The 29-year-old, who won the Golden Boot for being top goalscorer in the last World Cup, has been heavily criticised for his dismal performance against Croatia in the world champion's opening group game and for his only marginally better display against Australia.

Brazil have looked far from impressive so far but they have booked their place in the knockout phase and take on take on Japan on Thursday in their final group game, needing just a point to guarantee top spot.

The Real Madrid ace has been taking individual training sessions as well as the regular sessions with the rest of the Samba stars in an effort to boost his general fitness and he is now confident that the goals will come.

He said: "I'm very upbeat for this match, I feel very good physically and I know I'll play better against Japan.

"I've been practicing hard and I'm certain that the results will show even more in the match against Japan.

"I haven't scored in two matches but hopefully I will in this next one."

Brazil coach Carlos Alberto Parreira is expected to start with Ronaldo although he may rest some of his other star players.
