Ronaldo blasts referee

06/07/2006: Cristiano Ronaldo has criticised referee Jorge Larrionda following Portugal's semi-final defeat to France on Wednesday.

The winger was heavily lambasted for his and his countrymen's diving antics during the last-four encounter, but the Manchester United man felt it was the official that should take some of the blame for their exit.

Ronaldo insisted: "We played well and did our best but the referee didn't help us. Everyone who saw the match could see that the referee wasn't fair.

"He should have shown yellow cards but he did not because Portugal is a small country."

The 21-year-old was roundly booed every time he touched the ball, with a number of England fans heading to Munich to watch the semi-final.

Ronaldo though revealed the response didn't effect him and actually helped him perform to a high level, saying: "I was pleased about being booed.

"It doesn't worry me. I'm just here to do my job and try and help the team."
