Robbo hits back at critics

06/10/2006: Paul Robinson has hit back at critics of his World Cup displays and the Spurs keeper feels he is progressing well for club and country.

The 26-year-old former Leeds United custodian has made the England number one spot his own in the past year and, despite a run of eight clean sheets in the last nine internationals, he has not been safe from criticism.

Robinson did not look 100 per cent during the World Cup finals in Germany, but he did not make one crucial error which led to an opposition goal and he feels that, as he gains more experience, he can go on to become one of the world's best keepers.

Ahead of this week's Euro 2008 qualifiers against Macedonia and Croatia, he said: "Nobody likes to get criticised and have bad stuff said about them.

"Maybe in certain games I've not been at my best but I don't think I've played particularly poorly.

"There is not a game for England where a goal has gone in and I've thought 'that is my fault' but it's about confidence. At the moment, I am very confident.

"I am aiming to be one of the world's best and that will come with time, games and experience.

"I am going along the right lines. I think my recent record is very good for England. I've kept five clean sheets on the bounce and, if you take out the penalties against Portugal in the World Cup, I've conceded one goal in nine games."
