Rijkaard keen on Spain chance

16/06/2006: Frank Rijkaard has been most impressed with Spain from the sides he has seen to date at World Cup 2006.

The Barcelona coach watched his adopted nation hammer Ukraine during the week with Spain running out comfortable 4-0 winners.

"Spain have started very strongly, differently to the other favourites who have won games but not looked convincing," Rijkaard said.

"So far, I have liked Spain the best, as they have given a good account of themselves and looked solid.

"I also liked Argentina and always you need to think about Brazil who have great players who emerge at the right moment.

"Their first game was not spectacular, they did not dominate but I am sure that they will improve as the tournament progresses."

In particular, The Dutchman was pleased with the performances of his Barcelona players at the tournament.

"Xavi is always a player who makes a team function and that is what he did against Ukraine.

"Carlos Puyol had a great game also and on top had a big role to play in attack with an assist.

"I am happy for them and I also hope to see Andres Iniesta on the pitch," he said.

"Otherwise, I saw Rafa Marquez playing in central defence but also on the right for Mexico and as captain he had a great game.

"Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Mark Van Bommel have become regular starters for Holland, and Ronaldinho was always involved for Brazil with a lot of ball possession."
