Portuguese star set for summer move

26/04/2006: Portuguese international Ricardo Carvalho could be looking for a move from his current club Chelsea ahead of the Fifa World Cup 2006.

The big central defender was left out of his club's starting line-up against Liverpool in their ill-fated semi-final clash at Old Trafford and despite being a virtual ever-present this season Carvalho's desire to play regularly could see him move on during the summer.

There has been speculation linking the former Porto man with a move to either Real Madrid or Barcelona and the 27-year-old would not be adverse to a move to Spain.

"I'm clearly not happy about being left out of the side," Carvalho admitted.

"There is a lot of speculation as I have not played in Chelsea's last few games.

"It's good to know I've got big clubs interested. I don't want to say whether I want to continue with Chelsea or not - it would not be to my benefit to do so."

Carvalho had an outstanding tournament for Portugal in 2004 when his side reached the final - he was named in the Uefa All-Star squad made up of the competition's best players.
