Portugal up to scratch - Scolari

05/07/2006: Ahead of their semi-final, coach Luiz Felipe Scolari says Portugal are as good as the Brazil squad he led to World Cup glory in 2002.

The Brazilian-born tactician was responsible for his homeland's fifth world title against Germany in Japan and South Korea four years ago and he is now aiming to emulate that achievement with the Portuguese.

A last-four showdown against France in Munich on Wednesday stands between his side and a final date against Italy in Berlin on Sunday, but Scolari has told his players they are capable of winning the tournament and are every bit as good as his Brazil side of 2002.

He reportedly told his players: "You are as good as my 2002 Brazil World Cup winners."

He added: "My first job has been to try to help the players see where the limits are - then help them to get near the limits and then to reach the limits.

"Once they manage to surpass the limits, then they will realise there are no limits to what they can achieve."

Scolari is set to hand Deco and Costinha a starting place following their return from the suspension which ruled them out of the quarter-final penalty shoot-out win against England.
