Poland striker makes deal permanent

02/05/2006: Polish striker Grzegorz Rasiak has turned his loan move to Southampton into a permanent switch and is now looking forward to the World Cup.

The Stettino born forward has a good working relationship with the Championship side boss George Burley from when he played for him at Derby, and now the deal has been turned into a permanent switch he is looking forward to that relationship continuing.

Southampton have had to use some of the money they received from Arsenal for Theo Walcott for Rasiak and the 27-year-old has completed a £2million transfer from Tottenham Hotspur after being at the south coast club on loan since the start of the year.

"I have enjoyed my time here and I am happy to be here. I know the manager well from my time at Derby and I am sure we will do well under him," Rasiak said on the Southampton official website.

"I think I have done OK so far and the team is playing much better. It is looking good for next season. I am very happy here and want to stay longer - and it has been good preparation for the World Cup which I am now looking forward to."

Rasiak joined Spurs in a £2m moved from Derby County in 2005 but was sent out on loan after failing to settle at the north London club. Previously he had played for Siena in Italy. He has made over 20 appearances for Poland.
