Players resentful of Guimaraes
29/04/2006: Several of the Costa Rica players left out by coach Alexandre Guimaraes from his 28-man Costa Rica World Cup squad have moved to criticise the decision.
Guimaraes announced his 28-man roster on Monday, but his training squad does not include Lokomotiv Moscow forward Winston Parks, free-scoring Alajuelense striker Rolando Fonseca, and Oscar Rojas of Veracruz.
"I was left out, not because of a lack of ability, but for other reasons," Fonseca revealed to local journalists without elaborating.
Rojas commented: "He (Guimaraes) has his group, and some of us didn't fit in. I'm not resentful."
Parks was upset by the decision, but didn't want to say any more, according to his family.
Parks was on the mark in Costa Rica's 1-1 draw with Turkey at World Cup 2002, but many Costa Ricans believe Park's inability to hold down a regular place for his club side was the reason for Guimaraes' decision.
Other 2002 Cup selections not in the squad included Mauricio Wright, Pablo Chinchilla, Carlos Castro, Steven Bryce, William Sunsing and Rodrigo Cordero
Costa Rica face hosts Germany, Poland and Ecuador in Group A of Fifa World Cup 2006.
