Emmanuel Sheyi Adebayor

11/04/2006: Togo's first appearance in the World Cup fina;ls this summer is down in no small part to the rise of their huge striker, Emmanuel Sheyi Adebayor.

Adebayor is in no way a simple target man, however.

Anyone who has seen him turn out for Arsenal after his summer move to the North London side will know that he is an incredibly graceful player, who eats up the ground with his huge stride.

Similar to Arsenal old-boy Nwanku Kanu, Emmanuel has more desire than the Nigerian, who was often criticised for a poor work rate.

A scout from French side FC Metz first spotted Adebayor at the age of 15, playing for his beloved Togo.

After spending his formative years at the club and scoring 13 goals to earn them promotion to France's top league, Adebayor moved on to Monaco, where a great run in the Champions League brought him to the attention of ex-Monaco boss, Arsene Wenger, who brought him to Highbury in the summer.

Adebayor's performances for Togo show his passion for playing international football.

Still only 22, Adebayor could upset a few defenders this summer.
