Philip Cocu

31/05/2006: Dutch star Philip Cocu continues to be a pivotal player for the Netherlands, despite now nearing the end of his career.

He will be desperate to change the fact that his nation has never won the world title, despite being back-to-back runners up in 1974 and 1978.

That is not a record the Netherlands will be proud of, but with a versatile player like Cocu on the field, they will always have a chance of beating any side.

He can play anywhere across the midfield, as he has all the poise and time on the ball that one would expect of a top class Dutch player.

Cocu's return to PSV Eindhoven, after eight excellent years at Barcelona, may have signalled to some that Philip was ready to wind up his career, but two subsequent consecutive championship titles suggest otherwise.

However well the Dutch do, you can be sure that their manager and former striker Marco van Basten will put together an entertaining side.
