Peter Crouch
17/05/2006: In his short England career, Peter Crouch has already managed to divide opinion.
Some think that the lanky striker, who stands six foot and seven inches tall, simply does not have the class to play international football and is a blunt instrument used in an unimaginative long-ball game.
His supporters claim that Crouch not only has the ability to hold the ball up, but also has some footballing ability with the ball at his feet.
One man who certainly believes that the Liverpool striker can do a job for England is the team's manager, Sven Goran Eriksson.
The Swede probably won't start any games with Crouch, who moved to Liverpool this season for £6 million from Southampton.
But Crouch's ability to pose a very different problem for defenders later in a game means that he is a useful option to have, despite his dissenters.
Few will be betting he will score a hatful of goals in Germany, but he may well play an important part if England are to have a successful World Cup campaign.
