Pekerman praises Klinsmann
30/06/2006: Argentina coach Jose Pekerman has paid tribute to Jurgen Klinsmann saying he has turned Germany's fortunes around.
The two sides go head-to-head in Berlin on Friday in this summer's first World Cup quarter-final.
La Albicelestes will be seen by many pundits as favourites after their performances so far this summer, but Pekerman is taking nothing for granted.
He believes that the hosts have been very impressive so far in the competition and is preparing his side for a tough battle.
"It'll be a clash of two favourites," he said. "Unfortunately one of us has to go out, despite us both having done a lot of good things in this World Cup.
"Germany have been very impressive and a lot of that is due to Klinsmann. He has overseen a renewal in their attacking style that has brought them some good results.
"Just like Argentina, they always try to play good football."
The showdown will be a repeat of the World Cup final in 1986 and 1990 and Pekerman sees some similarities between the side he has moulded and that which was successful in lifting the trophy in 1986.
He added: "This side has some similarities to the old team - the way they play, some of the positions the players take up.
"We will go out to try to honour the team that won in 1986, and we know just how difficult it is to get to the final. This team is trying to make history again."
