Pekerman happy with win

31/05/2006: Argentine coach Jose Pekerman was pleased with the football his team played in a 2-0 win against fellow World Cup qualifiers Angola.

Goals from captain Juan Pablo Sorin and Maxi Rodriguez gave Albicelestes an easy victory against the African challengers with the coach pinpointing the appearance of Lionel Messi as a 75th minute substitute as a great boost for the side.

"Messi gives the team a great lift when he comes on and he's getting more and more adapted to his team mates - he's an important player."

Argentina dominated the match with the coach happy with the way things went.

"We have plenty of options and that leaves me relaxed. We have a lot of variety in attack and that allows me to plan different things taking into account how the matches look," Pekerman said.
"From zero to 10, we are on six points, this team can grow a lot.

"We defended well in situations that in other matches had complicated us.

"We also kept a clean sheet which is always good."

Argentina face a further warm-up game against Saudi Arabia in Germany on June 4 before opening the campaign proper against Ivory Coast in Hamburg on Saturday June 10.
