Paulo Wanchope
27/04/2006: During his time in England, Paulo Wanchope became something of a cult hero at the clubs he went to.
His gangly frame and rubber-legged dribbling style make him an awkward-looking player who never seems to have the ball under control.
It could have been so different for the Costa Rican striker, as he was also a very gifted basketball player at college, but opted to play football as a professional.
He may be an odd player to watch, but somehow, he finds his way past players and has a record of scoring some very impressive goals.
Who can forget the brilliant solo effort he scored on his Derby County debut against the mighty Manchester United? Spells at West Ham and Manchester City were less successful and he now plays in Qatar.
At 29, Wanchope has already said that this summer's tournament will be his swan song on the international stage. It would be no surprise if the enigmatic centre forward popped up with some unorthodox goals to help his side.
