Park fitness concerns Korea

18/05/2006: Korea Republic wide man Park Ji-Sung is struggling with an ankle injury that could force him to miss his country's pre-World Cup warm-up match with Senegal next week.

Manchester United star Park picked up the injury against Middlesbrough at the start of May.

Guus Hiddink, currently coach of World Cup-bound Australia, and former coach of the Korean national side believes Park is the key to their World Cup 2006 chances.

"If opponents are able to keep Park in check, it would be half a success," he said.

"He has fought for himself in a battlefield far from Asia and he has survived.

"Park is not the oldest in the team but he has become the most influential player."

Speaking about the upcoming friendly international, South Korea coach Dick Advocaat said: "There will be a mix of first team members and back-up players for the match against Senegal."

The game against Senegal will take place in Seoul on Tuesday. Forthcoming friendlies include games against Norway on June 1 and fellow World Cup finalists Ghana on June 4 in Scotland.
