Paraguay coach in silent vigil

09/06/2006: Paraguay coach Anibal Ruiz will not be communicating with his players from the bench against England in Spanish and has ordered his players to use Guarani - a native language of Paraguay that he can't speak.

Ruiz, from Uruguay, is worried that David Beckham's new found language skills at Spain's Real Madrid could result in the midfielder eavesping on tactical discussions on the pitch.

With that in mind Anibal Ruiz came up with the plan to negate any potential advantage.

Ruiz does not speak the language himself but believes his side's best interests will be served if they communicate in Guarani.

"I do not speak it, but I understand the players. They teach me all the time," he said.

Captain Carlos Gamarra agreed with the coach, who added: "David Beckham talks in Spanish. So, we will talk in Guarani because nobody understands us."

Paraguay play England in Frankfurt in their first World Cup 2006 game on July 10 with the game due to kick off at 1400 BST.
