Owusu World Cup KO

27/04/2006: Ghana striker Lloyd Owusu's hopes of playing in the World Cup are all but over after he suffered a torn groin muscle playing in Germany.

Owusu had received a first international call-up to the Ghana squad by coach Ratomir Dujkovic, but he picked up the injury during the country's friendly with Stuttgart in Wurzburg on Wednesday to dash his hopes of returning for this summer's showpiece.

Brentford boss Martin Allen said on the club's website "Lloyd played yesterday for Ghana and was taken off injured with a torn groin muscle.

"This will now keep him out for between six to eight weeks and he will not be available for our remaining games and also the World Cup."
