Nesta out of Socceroos showdown
25/06/2006: Italy have now confirmed that Alessandro Nesta will be missing from Monday's last 16 game against Australia.
The Milan star has failed to recover from a groin strain that he sustained in the 2-0 win over Czech Republic.
The Italy team doctor Enrico Castellacci has now issued a statement saying that the game will come too soon for Nesta. He said: "It is not a big strain but he certainly won't play against Australia on Monday.
"We will continue to evaluate him and try to get him back as fast as possible."
Inter Milan's Marco Materazzi is expected to come into the side in Nesta's absence.
